A new version of the popular laser barrier kit, equipped with a small microprocessor PIC16F629 I/P which makes it possible to extend its functions and increase its reliability.
You can choose from two operating modes:
1) continuous laser light: the relay drops out when the beam is interrupted (the advantage is the immediate response and long range, the disadvantage is it can be deceived easily, e.g. by throwing light on the receiver by using a laser pointer)
2) laser impulse mode: the laser flashes at a frequency of about 5 Hz. The receiving portion monitors these flashes and disconnects the output relay in case of skipping or continuous light. Therefore, it can´t be deceived easily.
Using the second jumper on the PCB, the relay switching mode can be selected. When the beam is interrupted, it either drops out permanently or rather during the drop-out, or in the second, impulse mode, it only opens for c. 0.8 s.
The receiver and controller part is in one box, the laser is in the other. The laser box is connected to the controller part. The box dimensions are 48 x 43 x 23 mm. Power supply 12 V.
The barrier theoretical range is substantial, up to several hundred metres. However, it is a problem to adjust the barrier for this distance. Realistically, the range is within 50 metres.
Using mirrors, the beam can be refracted, creating an impenetrable network. It is also advantageous to use the mirror in case that a cable cannot be pulled to the transmitter and the transmitter and receiver are placed next to each other – see the first image.
There are two versions offered – this outdoor, and cheaper indoor version. They differ in the laser used and temperature range. The indoor design is intended for temperatures from 0 to +40 °C, the outdoor design from -15 °C to +40 °C. The outdoor version has a higher-quality laser with embedded terminals and it is more resistant to humidity. The outdoor version includes a bushing for shielding sunlight.
